"Re-coppering our ink rolls saves us a lot of money in replacement costs from the maintenance budget and gets our printing machines back on line faster."
Rolls are removed from the Printing Presses and sent to DCL for inspection and reporting. If the copper is below minimum thickness it is removed and replaced by arc spraying and subsequent grinding.
Journals are checked for run out, metal sprayed and machined as necessary.
10 Inch and 4 Inch copper rolls are refurbished as required. DCL can also modify these rolls to run refrigerated cooling water. Maintaining a constant temperature is important particularly in summer, to prevent the ink from clagging.
Crabtree Print Cylinders
These Crabtree Print Cylinders have been fully refurbished for return to service. The full face of each roll has been metal sprayed and finish ground to bring the OD back to standard. The Bearers are hardfaced and ground, to increase service life. Journals are checked for run out and scoring etc and metal sprayed as required.
After stripping and cleaning, each cylinder is NDT'd to check for cracking. This cylinder had previously had a stub shaft fitted which was badly welded. The weld was machined out, all cracks removed and fully welded to Australian Standards.
